Race FAQs
TEAMS are welcome to enter for the Sprint distance events (Minimum age for Sprint is 16yrs).
A team consists of 2 or 3 members. Each team member competes in one discipline i.e. 1st team member = Swim, 2nd team member = Cycle, 3rd team member = Run. The Team event works like a relay. The team gets given a timing chip which will act like a batten and will get passed onto each team member in the transition area. Along with the timing chip, the Team also get 2 x race numbers which are worn by the cyclist and by the runner. The swimmer will get an official swim cap.
This is done on race morning during Bike racking. A Short Race briefing will also be done just before the Swim Starts.
Athletes MUST know the race routes and study
the route maps. It is their responsibility to know the course, how many laps
and where and when to turn. Marshals are not there to count laps or tell
athletes what to do, they are their to keep athletes on course and safe.
All athletes will loaned Chips at regitration. Athletes will be responsible to return these chips on the finishline. Lost or Stolen chips will be charged at R200.00 per chip.
The decision on Wetsuits is made on race day 1hr before the swim start. If the
water and air temp is warm, then wetsuits will not be allowed, if its cool, it
might be optional, if its very cold then it could be compulsory to wear a
wetsuit. The decision It takes into account the water and air temp as well as
wind. Wetsuits could be compulsory with water temps below 15deg, however the
decision is made by Triathlon SA Officials on race day.
Are allowed for both events as the events are non-drafting
All athletes will be given a Swim cap in their race pack. Athletes MUST wear the official Race Swim Cap during the swim dicipline.
NO Transition bags will be used for either event. Competitors will put all race equipment next to their Bikes inside the Transition area. There will not be a bag Tent, you must put you bag neatly next to your bike.
Athletes will need to place all equipment and gear at bike in Transition.
Road, Mountain and TT Bikes are allowed.
Please ensure you allow yourself enough time to register and rack your bike within the time frame allocated. Your bike, helmet and swim cap will be checked when you enter the transition area.

NO Drafting will be allowed in the Sprint event. Strict rules apply.

No athlete will be allowed any “Special Needs” assistance by the EO or the Officials during the Sprint or Ultra race
NO support or spectator cars will be allowed on the Bike routes due to the Athletes safety and the roads being closed.
Run
Water Sachets, 32Gi Endure, 32Gi Gels & 32Gi Bars, aQuelle and Bananas will be available at Run Water tables. If the weather is very hot, Sponges will be available at all run water tables.
Bike
Race Bottles will be provided at the Bike water tables with 32GI Endure or Water in them.
Rubbish must be thrown away within 50m before or after each water table.
If caught throwing rubbish away outside of these areas, you could be disqualified.
If you don’t have your TSA Licence with you on the day, it is compulsory to pay for a day Licence.

Athlete Medication
Athletes must apply for Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) if they are using a prohibited substance for legitimate, medically justified reasons to avoid any embarrassment for the athlete or TSA. Any athlete with a documented, legitimate medical condition may apply for TUE. Drug Free Sport will be conducting tests on a regular basis at TSA events.
